He was from the beginning, the idea is that he was meryless to help his people with the corporation money. But when a story goes on for too long and it has to be wrapped quick the execution suffers. It happens with a lot of games and tv series.
I understand that. It still doesn't change the fact that Henry and Betty are dead as a direct result of his involvement. The stairway is also gone. Sure that could me considered suicide and collateral damages but still. He is never held accountable for any of it. I think it's just bad story telling or at the very least a huge unresolved plot hole. It felt like he was more worried about just being done and less about wrapping things up neatly. I enjoyed the game but the ending left a lot to be desired for me personally.

It's not just you. The game became worse in the latest chapters.
Probably the author became tired and burnt out. That happens and it happened in many games on this site that seemed promising at the start. I guess I can't say names but some quite big game about vampires got finished recently and the ending is disappointing, just like here.

Also don't forget about the backers on Patreon. These guys often don't want a good story. They just want more threesomes and foursomes. You have to deliver them what they want. And it's hard to make a good, clever story when the protagonist is banging everybody every five minutes.

Still COBD is one of the best games on this site. Just compare it to the others.

Explain to me how that is any different than the posters on F95 - any game, any thread.

dammit, do I really have to chose if I want Katie (which I do) so early and lock out all those other routes...that sucks big time...
I can't see me playing this through to the end and then re-playing from their just to end up with another choice later on to lock out others (and yes I'm only on chapter 12 as I had a pile of other games needing attention)

Man, some people just can't enjoy anything without whining and bitching. This has been an amazing VN and I am sorry to see it end, but I have to say that it has been very satisfying. I would have read this if it was a book, but then again I love Cyberpunk. Neuromancer is my favorite book and while CoBD is no Neuromancer, it certainly is worthy to be placed in the same spectrum.

How stupid is it that the mc never even fights the red moon? Blah blah blah

Whereas the mc is a milquetoast protagonist who is also badly written. If I wasn't playing as the mc I wouldn't give a fuck about his character. Philly majorly dropped the ball to the point where it felt like he didn't really care about the story after a certain point and it was just a means to put more sex scenes in.

Some more nonsense....
I think that is the point - the MC is respected as a Ghost but is not all-powerful. Ever hear of Philip Marlowe? Mike Hammer? Sam Spade? A Ghost is more of a 21st Century PI than a superhero. The Red Moon is a superhero whose raison d'etre has passed on from the world. Henry is a retired superhero whose mission pulls him back into the world, but this is not a world of superheroes. It is a cyberpunk world of mercs and netrunners who are mere mortals with some amazing skills.

If the MC fought the Red Moon he would get his ass instantly handed to himself and probably killed. Then you would get a "Game Over" message and really be whining.

Notice that there is some serious inconsistency about Red Moon power in the story.
At some moment he needs to be delayed and there is an option to choose so Venus would fight with him. Red Moon eventually wins with her but is severely bruised.

So he can beat any trained mercenary easily but he struggles with sex dolls ;)

By the way it is a common problem in fantasy. Superman at one moment is able to stop a running train and a moment later cannot break a closed door.

Except when he fought Henry and would have killed him if not for Gloria? I wasn't talking about a head on fight. That'd be stupid. No I was talking about the mc using all his experience earned during his years as a ghost to fight the red moon unconventionally. It's nothing that one can't write.

Also, no one asked him to win. Maybe his goal is to delay him just long enough so that Gloria can get the procedure done. And for example, if you romance Gloria, then she stops in the middle of the whole thing and comes to his rescue right as the red moon is about to kill him. Or if you romance Victoria then right as the red moon is about to kill him, she shows him the tape of Meredith conspiring against the red moon. There are a million ways something like this could be done.

It makes sense that the protagonist of the story makes one last stand against the big bad op villain and wins the day through the power of friendship or some shit or makes the ultimate sacrifice, blows up everything, taking the villain with him or something like that. I am no literary genius but what we got is exponentially more shit than what I just came up with in 5 minutes. And Philly took like a year for that last update.
